After a drunken crash that killed his friend, Bradley Hazelton went on the run, living in the bush, working in a saw mill, and sleeping in sheds and caravans. It was, he said, a form of "self-punishment" for the death of 20-year-old Dwayne Nicholson, who died when the car Hazelton was driving crashed near Austinmer, north of Wollongong, in July 2000.
